Home remodeling is full of great debates that have raged for years. Should you get carpeting or hardwood floors? What color should you choose for your home’s interior? These have all been asked countless times, as have whether homeowners should select stone or quartz countertops. Here at Claghorn Custom Flooring, we have plenty of experience with both materials! This guide offers a quick look at the details, and some of the pros and cons of both stone and quartz countertops to help you decide which is best for your home.

Stone Countertops vs. Quartz Countertops

Stone Countertops

Stone countertops are 100 percent natural, and mined from quarries worldwide before being polished and used in homes. Not surprisingly, stone offers a very diverse, natural appearance that offers a great degree of flexibility. Typically, installation costs between $2,000 and $4,000. Stone countertops are aesthetically beautiful and offer a very natural look. However, stone isn’t especially environmentally-friendly, is less durable than quartz, and also requires more maintenance.

Quartz Countertops

Quartz countertops are composed of 95 percent ground natural quartz and five percent polymer resins. Quartz offers a similar appearance to stone and usually costs between $1,500 and $5,000 to install. Quartz is more environmentally-friendly compared to stone, and is also more durable and easier to clean. Its main downside is that, while aesthetically pleasing, it lacks the natural charm and grandeur of natural stone.
